Full STEAM Ahead!

STEM, which encompasses Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, along with STEAM, which integrates the Arts, is crucial for fostering innovation and enhancing creative problem-solving. With STEM jobs projected to grow significantly by 2030, especially in computing and engineering, there is an urgent need to inspire students to pursue these fields. To address this, the district is advancing its "full STEAM ahead" initiative by continuing to enhance SmartLabs at North Branch Elementary and Ruth Fox Middle School in the 2024-25 school year. These labs will provide students with hands-on experiences using technologies such as 3D printers for prototyping, laser engravers for design, CNC milling machines for manufacturing, and software tools like Adobe Photoshop and Stop Motion. This student-led, project-based learning approach will encourage ownership of learning, real-world applications, and the early development of a STEAM identity, while also connecting students with role models in the field.
